Guided Meditation & Relaxation for Children - FAQ's

Here are answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Meditation and Relaxation Imagery for children.

Q. Is meditation suitable for children? Do they really get stressed?
Yes and Yes. While childhood should be a time of innocence and happiness, children are also faced with pressures, just like adults, and they soak things up like a sponge. Children will very easily pick up on stressful situations. Peer pressure, bullying, exam expectations and the constant bombardment of modern technology means that probably, the only peace and relaxation our children get is when they're asleep. Guided Meditation and relaxation is simply a means of giving children the ability to become more focused and able to deal with these pressures by self understanding through the use of guided imagery, harnessing the child's own imagination through the stories told by our expert guide.
Q. Is Meditation suitable for young children?
Again Yes. In fact, these downloads are particularly suitable for toddlers right through to pre-teen age, helping with the stress of tests and exams.
Q. Are these downloads like audio books?
No. While these are told in story format, they're much more than just a story, they're a personal journey, skilfully narrated for the child to embrace. Therefore, our Meditation and guided relaxation downloads are specifically designed to help the child to develop their own imagination. This in turn helps them to learn about themselves and others through the positive interaction the stories bring about. .
Q. Does this have anything to do with hypnosis?
This has nothing to do with hypnosis. Our meditation and guided relaxation downloads are very relaxing and they are very safe. A child cannot get lost or stranded in their journey, for example. There's no 'suggestion' or 'subliminal messages' going on. Rest assured that the downloads are just wonderful stories, gently narrated by our skilled guide, for the child to use their own imagination, to help increase tranquility and their ability to deal with stress.
Q. Is Guided Mediation and Relaxation really just a form of 'Therapy?'
No, these are not therapy, but for many children who have difficulties in certain areas of their life, guided meditation and relaxation can prove very useful. Therapy suggests something very specific to the individual child, so if you think your child needs some form of therapy to tackle a specific problem, then you should seek the advice of your GP first.
Q. Do young children have the concentration to sit and listen all the way through?
It has been proven that young children do have the ability to sit and listen, and they are very happy to continue, enjoying these stories very quickly if sitting or lying comfortably. It's easy enough for the child to stop if they want to, there's no drowsiness or after effects, and they can return to it any time they chose.
Q. Is it okay if they fall asleep?
Of course, and many parents use our guided meditation and relaxation stories at bedtime for just that purpose; to help their children to fall asleep. And of course, it's perfectly safe to wake your child, should you wish to do so.
Q. Can these stories be used in the background?
Not really. The purpose of meditation and guided imagery relaxation is that they are the main focus of attention, although they can be played in a room while a child is playing without other distractions to help relax them. However, please ensure that under no circumstances is it played in the car, unless the child has a personal music player. Remember that guided meditation is designed to be very relaxing and so could cause the driver to fall asleep!
Q. Does Guided meditation have any educational value?
No, not in the reading, writing and arithmetic, sense. But it does help children learn about the world around them and to learn about themselves, and this can help improve awareness, creativity, concentration and memory.
Q. Are there other benefits to guided meditation?
Meditation can help children to think clearer by having a greater awareness of themselves. It can help with psychological and behavioural problems like hyperactivity, aggression and anxiety. It can also help with relaxation creativity, and dealing with stress and improving memory. The more we help children to be at peace with an understand themselves and there bodies, the better chance we have of helping them avoid stress related diseases when they grow up!
Q. Is this like Transcendental Meditation?
No, not at all! TM is quite different and the concept of children meditating like that is still in its infancy. Our Guided meditation is a very different thing and nothing like TM.
Q. Is Meditation religious?
No, religious beliefs are irrelevant.
